SGDD-ASAM, which is actively involved in the field of migration as a non-profit CSO, has been operational in Türkiye since 1995 with the aim of supporting asylum seekers and migrants in their access to rights and services, psycho-social wellbeing and adaptation to social life in more than 30 provinces. SGDD-ASAM engages in activities to generate solutions for the problems experienced by refugees and migrants, to help them respond to basic needs and to support them for access to fundamental rights and services in coordination with public institutions, municipalities and civil society organizations through cooperation protocols.

Empowering refugees and promoting social cohesion in Ankara
About the project
Ankara Community Centre aims to promote social cohesion between refugees and the host community, eliminate the language barrier and contribute to refugees’ self-reliance through Turkish language courses, improve the protection conditions and wellbeing of refugees through advisory-information and PSS services by increasing their access to services and through awareness-raising and empowerment activities. Individual interviews, including counselling and information services on social and legal issues are conducted by social workers and caseworkers. Cases are referred to relevant professional staff such as psychologists and health counsellors at the centre depending on the sensitivity level of the cases. Moreover, PSS activities and awareness-raising sessions are conducted, as well as refugee committees and solidarity groups are established.
The overall objective of the project is to improve the protection conditions particularly for vulnerable refugees, including increasing access to services, to strengthen the self-reliance capacities of beneficiaries through community empowerment and to promote social cohesion between refugees and host communities.

Cash Response Programme:
• Location: Ankara, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya
• Objective: Addressing the immediate needs of earthquake survivors, with the aim of empowering individuals and supporting community resilience.
• Activities: Needs assessments in Turkish, Arabic, and Farsi to understand the specific needs of affected families via phone calls, one-off cash support to identified vulnerable households, post-distribution monitoring, and evaluating.
Earthquake Intervention (Completed):
• Location: Adıyaman, Hatay, Malatya
• Objective: Addressing the urgent basic needs that have emerged in the earthquake-affected areas, adapting to the varying environmental and climatic conditions to provide targeted support.
• Activities: Search and rescue operations, distribution of clothing and hygiene kits, provision of water, distribution of tarpaulins, and ventilators.
