Local Educational Active Partnerships in Development (LEAP) is an organisation which specialises in protection (gender-based violence, child protection, social cohesion), education, livelihood (women’s socio-economic empowerment), food security and agriculture. LEAP considers building capacities as the key to increase resilience of refugees and vulnerable host community members and promote peaceful co-existence. LEAP has been working on protection in Çorum, Samsun, Ankara, Mardin, Şanlıurfa, Kilis, Adana, Adıyaman, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Hatay, İstanbul, Kilis, Konya, Mersin and Tekirdağ for 5 years. LEAP has so far reached more than 300,000 (host, refugee) direct beneficiaries, 77% of whom are women, and indirectly served to around three million participants through 33 projects. LEAP’s specific knowledge of the local context of Çorum and its skills in protection and building local ownership makes its interventions more effective.
