Van Association for Hearing Impaired Persons and Their Families (VIED)

Established in 2007, the association is active in Van working to ensure the access of hearing impaired individuals to equal rights and equal opportunities regardless of their gender, nationality, language and religion. VIED focuses on preventing discrimination against persons with disabilities, improving the rights of persons with disabilities and respect for differences, and ensuring that persons with disabilities benefit from equal opportunities. It aims to create common working areas among civil society organisations and to contribute to the strengthening of information sharing among organizations and institutions working in the field of disabilities.

About the project

The overall objective of the project is to overcome prejudices and raise awareness in the fields of intercultural understanding and social cohesion for people with disabilities in the province of Van through service provision, empowerment activities and facilitation of access to existing services.

The project will implement a series of activities for disabled refugees and locals in Van (who face a double disadvantage) through language courses, vocational trainings, consultancy services and awareness raising sessions on rights and basics of advocacy, besides facilitating cultural interaction between disabled locals and refugees.
