Established by Adana Seyhan Municipality in 2018, the Women’s Solidarity Centre has been offering a wide range of services to refugees and local beneficiaries since its establishment. The most prominent feature of the centre is bringing together services in fields of protection, social cohesion and nonformal education under a single roof. This one-stop shop approach creates a unique synergy for both working teams and beneficiaries -so much that the municipality allocated two more buildings to the centre this year in order to meet the increasing demand.
Seyhan Municipality Women Solidarity Centre
Project completed
Normalising the Refugee Situation
About the project
The overall objective of the project is addressing a woman as a woman, regardless of nationality or status, and supporting women to discover not only their needs, problems and traumas, but also their potentials.
The centre carries out activities with the underlying approach to move away from the definition of «refugee» and to normalise contacts and relations through the identity of «woman» as a Women Solidarity Centre. It facilitates the use of a new language – no more discussing problems, but potentials, future plans, dreams, empowerment, independence, and happiness.
The centre uses new and innovative methods for psychosocial support and empowerment of women such as art therapy, dance therapy, family constellation and somatic experiencing.
Planned activities
- Psychosocial Support (seminars, group and individual therapies, social service support, trainings, referrals)
- Art and Dance Therapies, Family Constellation (Multi-day events consisting of several sessions, reaching those elements in individual psychology which cannot be spoken our loudly and openly)
- Somatic Experiencing, Invisible Wounds (workshops where activities and training are intertwined, understanding trauma, body awareness, grounding, relaxation and exercise)
- Digitalisation (computer workshop for 12 people, coding trainings for teenagers and children, trainings for adults on daily life, socialisation and the use of digital technologies for commerce)
